Do you want to know the best piece of wedding advice I’ve ever heard? It came from my dear great Aunt Glendys as my wedding day approached. She simply told me “Soak it in. Soak the whole day in from start to finish.” She was SO RIGHT.
After months and sometimes years of careful planning, it’s easy to stress out about little details on the day of your wedding. You’re worried about your centerpieces. You’re worried that the cake hasn’t arrived yet. You’re worried your bridesmaids won’t walk down the aisle at the right time. (You wouldn’t be worried about all these things if you hired a wedding coordinator – just saying!). But there comes a time when you need to let it go and remember what the day is all about. You are marrying the one you love! This day will pass in the blink of an eye. Don’t forget to stop and soak it all in.
This photo is near and dear to my heart. Yes, the lighting is pretty bad. It’s not beautifully composed or magazine worthy. It’s a selfie taken in the car as we pulled up to the ceremony site. I’m surrounded by two of my dearest friends and about to marry the love of my life. I remember how I felt at this exact moment and I can honestly say I was taking my aunt’s advice and soaking it in. It still makes me tear up a little when I see it and it is one of my favorite images from our wedding day.
Labeling a piece of advice as “the best ever” is bold, but I stand behind the statement 100%. No matter what happens on your wedding day, remember to take a moment to center yourself and soak it all in!
